COMPLETING THE NEW MUSICAL "IAN FOREST" FOR PRESENTATIONS

The new musical "Ian Forest" which I've been working on with Tony Moss for two years is near completion and will then be presented in NYC. It is a very Edge piece that explores the nature of meaning using current musical approaches, dance and dialog, with visionary set design. 


WORK FOR THE WORLD CUP COMPLETED WITH Al JEEZERA FOR DISNEY COMPOSER DON GRADY

Completed three compelling pieces for the African Cup 2010 for composer Don Grady and a top NYC based production company with filming by teams based in NYC and London. Benjii Simmeersbach, born in Mali and singer for The Durgas sang one piece called "Dreams"

DISK WORK WITH SONJA DRAKULICH OF STELLAMARA FOR SOLO PROJECT

Have composed five tracks for Sonja to start our project together.. Sonja is a brilliant singer in the world music sphere and a beautiful soul, and I've composed some Edge tracks to take that genre into some new areas of play for her voice. 

NEW TRACK WITH REUBEN AND MIRA FROM LADYTRON FOR NEW TELEVISION PILOT. 

Have composed a powerful track that is in consideration for a new Telly series.. Reuben and Helen added their parts in the UK and I mixed it here at Voice of the Silence Sound.

WATCHMEN FILM COMPOSING CONTINUES FOR DVD RELEASE 

 

The music I've been composing for the Watchmen Webisodes will continue into the DVD release content also. The film opens in March with much anticipation from longtime fans of the brilliant graphic novel, which is considered one of the greatest works of literature in the last century. It is a film that has unsuccessfully been attempted on several occasions and has now been finished by the same team that did the film 300, of which I placed 20 cues for DVD release also.

 

ENERGY AUTONOMY FULL FEATURE FILM SCORE BEGINS

I have started preliminary music sketches for the feature film about Energy Autonomy which has been filmed this fall/winter all over the world. The production team is the brilliant Fechner Media based out of Europe. I will be doing a very wide variety of composing along with creating original songs and using some known artists tracks. There is a possibility of a surprise performance by one of the most renown artists alive, more on this soon. The film is all about current exiting solutions to the challenges of alternative energy. The film was shot by one of Europe's leading cinematographers.

 

ANNOUNCING THE CREATION OF "THE ART OF SOUND" RECORD LABEL

 

No'a and manager Kate McCallum have created a new "boutique" label called The Art of Sound. The label will showcase new artists and new art work. So this will be a blend of original music and original art, with each unique disk release showcasing something quite unique and new. We expect to have our first six disks ready by the summer and our "Web Gallery" open then also. Each artist offers one original work for the inner sleeve that makes these music disks unique and prized.  

TWO NEW RECORD PRODUCTIONS COMPLETED THE DURGAS AND JUPITER SUNRISE

 

I've just completed producing two new projects with brilliant artists. The Durgas, which is a cross of indie, jam band, and world influences and the new disk by Mark Malek of Jupiter Sunrise which is a deep blend of indie, rock, world and soul. Both projects are currently before labels with much interest. Look for these this summer/fall.

 

 

FUEL FILM WINNER OF SUNDANCE 08 USES NOA TRACK MIDNIGHT SUN

 

The wonderful film FUEL which is opening nationally is using Noa music. It is a brill film and took the Sundance prize in 08'. It is a very comprehensive look at alt fuel and all it's many threads. See it when it comes to your world.

 

MUSIC FOR NEW AD CAMPAIGN BEGINS

 

I have created the music for a new ad campaign for Goddess Worlds first release Aphrodite. This was done with producer Diana Fengler Shores and ties into the ancient goddess rituals. The lead voice was sung by wonderful singer Linda Ravenswood. Watch for Aphrodite and Goddess Worlds

My first solo disk project called Songs From the Ashes is nearly complete and will be a very diverse collection of songs with multiple singers on the Massive Attack tip.

"HEALING WORDS" film on PBS this summer

The film "Healing Words" about the "Arts in Medicine" program currently being integrated into some hospitals in the US will be shown on PBS this year starting in July. This is a beautiful film narrated by Peter Coyote which shows how "artists in residence" are making a huge difference in hospitals now working with the sick, dying and recovering patients. The program also has the doctors doing art and poetry and it is a very compelling and innovative approach to healing. As one Neuro-scientist says in the program "Medicine with Art, people get better, even if they don't survive". That is a rad and brilliant new way to see "healing" or wholeness on the soul level. The score I composed and performed for this is quite diverse and moves through many types of musical zones, from classical, to world to hip hop and a sung ballad. I played drums, keys, blues harps and guitar on these along with a palette of sound samples. The film was made by a wonderful team which includes Producers Dr. David Watts, a musician and physician, his writer wife Joan Baranow and the brilliant filmaker David Drewery all whom are based in the San Francisco area. It's been a labor of love, and is deeply moving art and now will go Nationwide!

Creating rad music pieces for upcoming film "Watchmen". This being the graphic novel that literary critics worldwide consider one of the fifty greatest works of literature in the last 100 years. My work being for the EMP posse. The new music passed the screening of director Zack and Production team, also the same team that made the film 300 whose creative project i placed 20 pieces of ancillary music for. The brief has been to be very "out of the box" and dive into the current "rock music" vibe of gen z and y artists that are kickin' it. Look for the much anticipated webisodes on this film upcoming with my composing and continuing until the film's release currently scheduled for March 09'. The first webisode will be up and showing soon.

NEW G-FORCE PROJECT BEGINS

I've just completed the bulk of composing for a new visual music project with the legendary G-Force posse and co-composer Jami Devi out of Florida. We've chosen the Five Elements as the focus for the rad piecs which will become available sometime this year via G-Force's multi-million selling fan base and deep ties with Apple and iTunes. These will be five ten minute long journeys of sound and vision. BTW- the fifth element in eastern thinking is Ether.

AGILE, MOBILE AND HOSTILE CHOSEN FOR SXSW FESTIVAL AND NPR REPORT!

The new documentary i've been working on for a year with filmakers Eric Mathies and Tricia Todd was chosen for the SXSW Fest and premiered there in March at the fest with Andre Williams playing live during the week with the brill indie band The Sadies..

THE NEW DURGAS RECORDING "BURMA" L.A PRODUCTION COMPLETE
I've finished all my L.A. prod. for the new Durgas disk to be called "Burma". I did this while the band was touring, building off of the tracks we recorded at Nuphobia in Berlin five months ago. It's come out great and has a vibe of the bands incredible live Global Jam meets my additional edge ambient zone. We'll be mixing this to have it ready in the spring. For your info, The Durgas may be one of the best live bands i've seen in years.. Don't miss a chance to see them.

c3 along with Bill Scott, inventor of Brain Paint and myself are completing the first Brain Paint DVD and it looks to be very cool. The newest version of Brain Paint imaging is staggering to behold. Also Brain Paint with Bill and I will be going live again for the Downtown Mega Art Bash weekend event called "Create/Fixate - Transformation" in March.

I've just completed a much beloved and awesome project with visionary inventor/visual artist John Banks called "Elemental Mandala', We'll be looking to enter it in numerous film festivals this year. The remarkable visual art of John moves through approx twelve different phases and I composed twelve evoloving musical journeys all threaded seamlessly to score the art. It's very cool and is part of a "Club Series" John and I had always wanted to explore. So look for this to be playing sometime soon in a Paris Dance Club with you inside of it trippin'.

LOUNGECLASH "DREAD TIME STORY" IS RELEASED AND PLAYED BY TOM SCHNABEL ON CAFE LA!!!!!

The new and first disk by Sam (Loop Guru) Dodson, Neil (Transglobal Underground/Temple of Sound) Sparkes and myself called Loungeclash "Dread Time Story" has been released in the U.S and Europe. Check out the deep "Club Exotica" vibes where Tikis meet DJ's at the corner of Lost Paradise. Find a copy, you won't be disappointed.

SELF CENTERED TOUR HAS FIRST L.A. EVENT

The Self Centered Tour had it's first "edge" event in L.A. in Feb and it was a resounding success! Max Simon and the team took it to new zones of conscious explorations for a very engaged young audience. Makik, Eugene, Jamie Joy and I played for the party that night and had a great time. The "process explorations" and deep meditations done by SCT are amazing, original and have deep impact with a love vibe that is tangible. Musitations New Edge Meditation disk is getting rave reviews and Max and I are about to begin three hour long journeys i'll compose starting in late Feb.

CHOCOLATE CHAKRA SHAKEDOWN IS WONDROUS SUCCESS

The Bliss Bar posse and c3 created a brill event in late Jan here at the Silent Movie House/Annie Besant Lodge. Gourmet raw food, original DJ music, Kundilini Dance workout and even a brief class on how to make cocao Bliss Balls.. we had a good crowd and amazing ambience in the theater created by the Bliss Bar. The band rocked the theater and Beachwood Canyon for two hours with folks dancing non stop for the last hour! Great show, killer band, brilliant vibe!

THE DURGAS LIVE IN BEACHWOOD!!!!! 

To kick off the new year right, we've got The Durgas stopping by to perform it at the Silent Movie Theater here in Beachwood, amongst the gazes of Madame Blavatsky and Annie Besant.

Currently on a world wide tour that has taken them from Berlin to Thailand and beyond, the band will play LA at the theater here at mine before heading on to Hawaii for a series of concerts throughout the islands. They'll have some stories about gigs in Myanamar, (where Buddhist priests are being rounded up, imprisoned and worse). 

Don't miss this indie/alt band with conscious world vision.. One of the coolest live experiences I know and beloved of critics and a global posse.. Just completing their new music disc to be mixed at Michael Franti's, Spearhead studio in the spring. 

Opening for The Durgas will be Jamie Marie Spears, the remarkable young singer/songwriter from Hawaii, now in LA to record new tracks..

ANNOUNCING CHOCOLATE CHAKRA SHAKEDOWN

The CCS experience will begin on January 29th at the old silent movie house/Annie Besant Lodge in Beachwood. This has been "hatching" for some time and is now ready for you all to came and enjoy. The experience is a c3 event in concert with Keval, Karamjot and Bhagvant from Golden Bridge. It begins with a handmade chocolate Bliss Ball and moves into a brilliant new form of Kunilini Yoga expression that is done with Karamjot as DJ spinning mashups and breaks based upon Mantras!!, Keval is the event guide and magical to do yoga with. Bhagvant will be running the Bliss Bar and there will be pure handmade Raw Superfood eats offered for all in the classes. The class will last for a few hours beginning with raw chocolate and ending with the Bilss Bar. Max Simon will join us for the February event bringing his mojo and Musitations to the mix. Come and engage this new, genuinely transformative yoga dance class experience the likes of which you've never had and one you will wish to repeat again as we continue these "new edge" events throughout 2008!!!! NOA BEGINS PRELIM COMPOSING FOR SPEED RACER FILM PROJECT

Just putting finishing touches on the first of five films with the wonderful folks of Meaningful Media and Eyes of the World Productions. This first film on Meth Use called "Meth: Inside Out". It's an innovative and beautifully made film. Been able to do some rad extreme stlyed tracks but also some new orchestral, jazz and ambient compositions for this film.

Musitations will be avaliable for purchase and download from a number of sites and sources soon, these are the new meditation music compositions done in a very "New Edge" zone using current instrumentation ala Massive and Zero 7 et al. for a new "fresh take" on meditation oriented music (NOT your mothers new age style). Max and I are getting very strong positive response to Musitations so far from those who've gotten pre-release copies.

NEW PROJECT WITH LONDON BASED MULTI-MEDIA ARTIST HOLLY WARBURTON 

I"m starting to compose sketches for the upcoming new visual art project with brilliant Holly Warburton, currently living in France. The project will deal with the concepts of The Elements. Strangely enough, the G-Force project is based on the elements also, so i'll be dancing with Earth, Wind, Fire, Air and Space/Ether for some time here in 08.

c3 Sound and Vision series continues..

 

Yep, tis that time of the month in our new season.. Please come and join the posse at a brill event with the world's foremost renown female Frame Drum Master, Layne Redmond. This will be a very multi media experience and guest performers will also be showing up to add flavor and vibe. If you've never heard a Master Drummer you will be amazed at what can be done with one drum and staggering technique. Layne will also have a group of drummers on hand for a new performance piece that crosses drumming from Ancient Greece over into contemporary Brazilian grooves.  Some other musical surprises are planned for this deep, energetic, rhythm gestalt performance night. Be sure and bring your heartbeat!

"SONGS FROM THE ASHES"

My first recording project as a solo artist called Songs From the Ashes is finally heading for the finish line. This has been the secret project i have been nurturing for several years and includes remarkable performances from many brilliant musicians and artists. It is designed to become an ongoing vehicle creatively for my original output beyond scoring, composing for other artists and work with visual aritsts. Five of the 13 tracks will be finished soon. I'll be singing several of the songs and will also have Jamie Spears adding her wonderful voice to a couple of the songs along with Benji Simmersbach of The Durgas singing one wild track about living and dying called If I Fall. The first set of tracks titles are If I Fall, Love Less, In the Rain, Hot Chocolate in a Wine Glass and All Ways. It's been a mega project with sessions on my studio system that are forty tracks wide in some cases. 

HORTON HEARS A WHO SCORED 

Was able to score a new doc on the brill Dr. Suess story and film Horton Hears a Who which is quite a deep social and political statement. The doc dives deep into the midst of the radical perspective on social justice that was being presented in the story. 

C3 BEGINS NEW SEASON OF CONCERTS

The sold out c3 events in the Silent Movie House/Besant Lodge in Beachwood Canyon begin in Oct with David Hykes the unsurpassed Mulitphonic Chant singer and teacher leading it off. Other plans include world famous Frame Drummer Layne Redmond in Nov with Steve Roach still looking to perform in the new year. NEW FILM SCORING LINING UP FOR FALL AND WINTER

Several new film scoring opportunites are lining up with details soon to follow. The composing on The Brave One for HBO was well recieved. 

MUSITATIONS CREATION AND RELEASE

The Project with Max Simon, creator of the Self Centered Tour called Musitations has been completed. We created four M's to begin with for the first disk and they are designed to take the listener very deep, very quickly in a new way that is not new age nor old school. Think Zero 7 or Theivery Corporation goes meditation style and you've got the picture on this. New Edge musical meditations journeys for the iPod zone allowing for deep inner journeys to be taken on a mountain bike excursion or on a break from surfing or anytime and anywhere one needs to just go deep for all of eight profound minutes and return fresh and vibin'. Look out for Musitations and Max's SCT and check the Self Centered website. 

BRAIN PAINT AT THE BREWERY ART WALK WEEKEND

Bill Scott took any takers on a personal Brain Paint journey at the c3 downtown loft party for The Brewery Art Walk weekend.. many folks attened the laid back vibe and enjoyed doing BP and connecting on life, love and the mystery... Max Simon introduced Musitations to the audience to great response. 

THE DURGAS FINISHING UP PRODUCTION SOON TO MIX IN THE NEW YEAR

I am working with Benji to finish the last of the vocals here in LA for the new Durgas disk. I'll then be creating ambient pieces to play inbetween the sixteen tracks on the recording and we will look to finishing the mixes by the spring. This is a very cool new disk with brill songs and all the amazing live energy of the band performing. 

BACK TO SCHOOL AND THE REST

That's about it for now, i'm back in school for my fall semester studies on my Masters Degree in Consicousness Studies and looking to complete the degree within the next year. It's been such a rewarding experience to return to University and learn from this incredible cutting edge collection of professors. Now to design my thesis presentation. I've been thinking on the correlation of current quantum physics/esoteric texts that say much the same things and the creative process. We shall see what comes if that. Looking to finish the Visual Music piece I'm doing with artist John Banks in the next month, it's called "Elemental Mandala" and is a nine minute visual ecstatic trip with an evolving score that moves through dance club zone and beyond. Beginning new project with Layne Redmond. We recorded five percussionists in my home studio and i'm now working on the keys and guitar parts and bouncing the idea off of Layne as she tours in other parts of the world. New project with bassist/singer composer Clare Kenny on the Gnostics gearing up. An ambient extended musical piece with cello is the plan and Clare is recording "found sounds" in the Lan'ge' Doc region in southern France for the project as I write. 
The new doc on songwriter/performer Andre William called Agile, Mobile and Hostile was readied and sent on to Sundance in early Oct, I did all the Mastering work at Chace Audio and the film is outrageous, funny and heartbreaking.. Check it out on its myspace site. I also just mastered the new disk from France's Dirty Important Persons or DIP, produced by my friend UK drummer Neil Conti, it's a wild affair part T-Rex part disco part Louis x1v. Guess that's all the current events.

PRODUCING NEW DISK FOR INDIE BAND THE DURGAS IN BERLIN

The summer has been a great opportunity to work on both new composing and new production projects. I was in Berlin with the extraordinary band The Durgas for July working in Nuphobia Studios. We tracked sixteen new songs in a live band style with few overdubs and it all went better than we could have imagined. The band was hot from the road and in top form having been playing the new material live around Europe so we were able to get all sixteen new tracks in a couple of days for the recording. We finished all the tracks in one week and The Durgas were straight off to the south of France for more shows. It was great to work in a new studio in Berlin and a cool opportunity for me to experiment with some unusual rare old tube mics from the former communist recording matrix of East Berlin studios. I also experimented with some new recording ideas for this project and for one song we did a live mic'd session in the round,  in a deconstruct folk style. Jim Farichild from Grandaddy, sat in on a few tracks and played some guitar. The new disc will be finished here at Voice of the Silence Sound where I will explore additional ambient parts in between tracks and some overview muiscal production. It's a great collection of new Durgas music. 

The Durgas blur the line between many musical and cultural modalities, going from indie rock to alt folk, african, reggae, and brilliant soul music. The brothers Christopher and Benji Simmersbach having been raised caravan style by their well known artist mum, in many different countries from Portuagal to Africa, to Germany... This record has lyrics in five different languages. You can catch up with the Durgas and their ongoing global tours at The Durgas website on myspace, and watch for the new film on the family along with the current award winning doc The Big Pink about life in the Simmersbach clan, the film which is making the festival circuit in this fortieth anniversary of the Summer of Love has received critical accolades and Best Documentary awards.  

Berlin was incredible and I made many new friends there and look forward to returning to create there again sometime soon. My gratitude for all the kindness bestowed on me by the whole band and band friends such as Susi, Joni, Vanessa and the folks from Franky Boy. Berlin was described by Phil Freeborn studio owner of Nuphobia as a city with no identity and this is what makes it so enticing for artists as it is a major capital city in Europe with no "scene" or specific vibe that is trendy, so artists can work in Berlin doing what they want without the pressure of being "hip" in an ever fickle system of creative zeitgeist. Instead the city seems to support originality. It's also a major capital city where you can find a loft space for about 750 dollars/500 euros a month!!!!! 

I was also able to meet with Michael Haves the talented young musician and composer for the phenom band Super 700. Michael took me to their studio to listen to new track ideas for their upcoming recording as we begin to talk about the possibility of doing some production together for the new disk. They are a remarkable young live band, possibly the best in Germany now and have a remarkable singer in Ibadet and her twin sisters who sound like a cross between Kate Bush/ Ella Fitzgerald/Billie Holiday and Bjork with music that goes from an indie sensibility to NIN dark rock to experimental, often with wildly erotic, poetic and ironic lyric context. The Super 700 studio is in a former East Berlin controlled complex that was originally part of the former German Republic and was one of the most thoroughly designed recording studio complexes ever built. With Bauhaus architecture and rooms built just for jazz, classical, choral, and chamber music, along with radio and contemporary. After the wall fell down this complex was filled with new artists looking to use it's incredible acoustics for rock and indie rock projects. I saw several of these amazing studios now being used for contemporary projects, the rooms are perfect acoustic environments and very cool for doing experimental recording concepts as they are so versatile and filled with such amazing classic microphones. FILM SCORING FOR NEW WB MOVIE THE BRAVE ONE 

Just completed new Project Labs music for the new Warner Bros. film The Brave One, directed by Neil Jordan and starring Jodi Foster and Terrence Howard. This as part of  my ongoing composing for Project Labs with whom i did the 300 ancillary music. I was able to do music in a bit of a contemporary "Bernard Hermann meets Massive Attack zone for this suspense, dectective, human interest drama. Great to compose utilizing some very musical sound design effects scored within the music for dramtic emphasis. The film opens in September. Also check out Eric and Tricia's Project Labs website as they have much going on and several new Docs coming up soon including their soon to be released film "Agile, Mobile, Hostile, A Year with Andre Williams". Eric and Tricia's film about the African Bike program called "Ayamye" just completed the Bicycle Film Fest tour from NYC to LA with many Kudos!

NEW LOUNGECLASH DISC ~ DREAD TIME STORY RELEASED GLOBALLY

The new recording I made with Sam Dodson (Loop Guru) and Neil Sparkes (Transglobal/Temple of Sound) AKA Loungeclash, is being released in August. It's a brill Club Exotica project with all three of us composing and performing... Trippy samples and mega grooves with a global "island" vibe. Loungeclash will begin the next recording soon with an eye for some vocal performances this time out. Check out Dread Time Story on the Loungeclash myspace site when you can...  

Music To Watch Tiki's By!!!

Relaxing on the LoungeClash verandah, I came to ponder upon the fine friends we have met so far upon our Mic Space, mice space, My spaced journey and the rich source of Tiki's and Burlesque-ers we have fallen upon (!) as we have sought the path from our jungle hide-away to the tropical glare of our far away beach. The song of the tree frog played lonely and echoed weirdly through the palms; visions of wild tassles and slowly poured Mojitos clouded my distracted mind. The carvings upon the bar seemed to echo this exotic yearning, then there came a rapping, slowly tapping upon my Tiki bar; a firelit procession playing tricks upon my mind, as if the very carvings themselves had wished themselves up, fuelled by some crazy far off drum beats, leading a wild masked procession, "Those bongos drive me crazy"... "They're actually congas, DearBoy.." I had to correct the foolish bar steward, "But listen" I hushed "Music to watch Tiki's by..." And on it played, this Exotic crazy tune inside my mind.........And those damn tassles were wild...........  


SCIENCE OF PEACE COMPOSING AS PROJECT GEARS UP FOR PRESENTATIONS

Composing music for this compelling new series Science of Peace, hosted by Star Trek Next Generation star LeVar Burton. SOP is putting the final touches on their current project which will be presented for potential series consideration. The show will cover the "New Edge" of science as it relates to Peace within humanity on an inner, individual and a global scale. The first prototype program deals with the actual DNA relationship between humans and Peace... Remarkable interviews with leading experts in the field along with practical life examples abound. There are amazing shows planned for this series. Check out the Science of Peace website where you can read about it all and also watch film clips. It is time for the Science of Peace.. 

c3 PLANNING NEW CONCERTS, MEDIA RELEASES

c3 is preparing many new concerts and programs and also looking to release several c3 dvd projects that will follow the matrix of "Synthesizing Emergent Consciousness".. Look out for these and don't forget we have Steve Roach in October for two nights of transformational sight and sound in the Silent Movie House in Beachwood Canyon.
